CEHJ's main purpose is to search through and analyse the Parliamentary archives of Paris (series X of the National Archives), which constitute one of the most important documentary resources of the Old Regime, in terms of both volume and interest, as the Parliament of Paris was the supreme court of justice of the kingdom of France. The analysis of its legal archives by the CEHJ enables us to deal with topics concerning the history of justice, sources of law, criminal law and political history. The results of these findings, made available to jurists and historians alike, are complementary to the research tools of the National Archives. The CEHJ and the former section of the National Archives participate together at symposiums and study/training days.

Access to Parliamentary documentary resources has led to important publications by P.C. Moreover, the elaboration of Thésaurus d'histoire médiévale : documents diplomatiques et judiciaires (1983), supplemented by J. Hilaire in 1997, led to, thanks to his legal terminology structured around key words, the compilation of an online database. The Centre is continuing its publications relating to Parliament by extending its investigations to the XV, XVI, XVII and XVIII centuries.
