The course starts by recalling the objectives and the practice of monetary policy, with a particular emphasis on the functioning of the interbank market, both in normal times and in response to crises. The money market anomalies observed in the last years and the policy responses are analyzed. The issuance of central-bank digital currencies that may dramatically impact monetary policy and the banking sector is studied in detail.
